Johnathon de Villier is a research analyst contributing to Navigant Research’s Energy Technologies program. De Villier covers applications for blockchain in the energy sector and its intersections with key technology trends, from transactive energy and the internet of things to future mobility and the smart home. In addition to blockchain, de Villier covers microgrids and their role as part of an efficient and resilient grid system. His work focuses on the strategic implications of these technologies for utilities and other stakeholders transitioning to a digital and distributed future.
Prior to joining Navigant Research, de Villier studied the effects of wildfires, climate change, and insect pests on the health and recovery of Western forests at the United States Department of Agriculture. He holds a Master’s degree from Columbia University and a BA from Bowdoin College.
